THE DIVING TEAM
Christiane Muller
(PADI MSDT 915104)
From Tomorrow's World by Tim Ecott (The Daily Telegraph, Dec. 2003):
"I will fight till my last
breath to save this place," said Christiane quietly. "The fish here are my friends."
For 11 years she has lived (...) on the Indonesian island of Bunaken (...) where she is known to
everyone as Ibu - an Indonesian term for "mother" signifying great respect.
(...)
She is now a key figure in the North Sulawesi Watersports Association, a
forum for local diving operators to collaborate on measures to protect the surrounding coral
reefs.
Their efforts, and those of many local people, were recognised this week when Bunaken
National Marine Park was named overall winner in the British Airways Tourism for Tomorrow
Awards.
From The Deep Blue Sea by Jo Lusby (City Weekend, Dec. 2000):
Talk with the animals, swim with the animals...
"It's fair to say that nobody understands the ocean and its inhabitants better than Christiane Muller,
a 65-year-old dive instructor based at Froggies Divers in Bunaken's National
Marine Park, North Sulawesi (northern Indonesia, beneath the southern tip of the Philippines).
Gently eccentric and tireless
in her commitment to ecology, she has been diving the pristine waters around Bunaken for seven years, and after spending most of the last 11 years several meters below almost seems more at home underwater than on dry land. (...)"

Director, Manager, Organizer, Mr. Fixit. Arranger of airline seats when the plane is supposedly
full. Organizer of the best hotel-rooms at the best price.
Generously sharing his knowledge about the most interesting spots to visit on the mainland.
In short "Minahasa's Big Daddy", and he is a real daddy now of a beautiful little girl called Claudia.

THE "EYES OF BUNAKEN": with whom you will be diving
|
Eyes as sharp as an eagle (ray), they'll point out a shark or a tuna, long before you sense
their presence. Or they'll let you discover shrimps and nudibranches so small, you hardly knew
you could ever spot. With their years of diving in these waters, in unexpected currents you couldn't
find a better buddy.
